Safety
Spradling Drilling considers Safety a vital element of company operations. The management of Spradling Drilling is committed to providing a safe, healthful and drug-free work environment. We are dedicated to identifying, correcting and preventing health, safety and environmental hazards. Spradling Drilling committees our self to ensuring that all applicable regulatory health, safety and environmental protection requirements are complied with and that adequate resources are provided to ensure the health and safety of our employees. The ultimate goal is zero incidents.
Spradling Drilling’s employees are the foundation of any protection program. In this respect, Spradling Drilling encourages and promotes a team atmosphere with the rig crews and all employees. It is Spradling Drillings opinion that a productive team that works well with each other produces a safer environment. Spradling Drilling’s Safety Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of Spradling’s Safety Programs. The Safety Coordinator encourages employees in an effort to get all employees to become an active partner in their safety.
All rig crews receive annual training on Spradling Drilling safety policies and procedures. Each crew also receives more specific training and orientation as necessary and when available. Each employee is highly encouraged to receive training in First Aid and CPR. 80% of all Spradling Rig crews are trained in first aid and CPR. Spradling Drilling’s goal is zero incidents; however, Spradling Drilling plans, prepares, and trains for any and all potential accident and severity. All rigs are equipped with safety equipment and medical supplies. The Safety Coordinator receives advanced training in safety and First Aid.
Active steps are taken to help insure that accidents are prevented. Each rig undergoes a safety inspection before the beginning of each new well. Employees meet and conduct safety meetings on a regular basis and always at the beginning of a new well. All near misses are documented and steps are taken to learn from all near misses.
Spradling Drilling learns from all accidents. Anytime an accident occurs, the Safety Coordinator investigates the accident and hears from the supervisors and any and all parties involved. The Safety Coordinator then reports his findings to the management and steps are implemented to help prevent the same accident in the future.
Spradling Drilling actively participates in all Workers Comp claims. Employees are followed from injury, evaluations, treatment, recovery, release, and return to work. The goal is to make sure that employees are receiving the treatment needed, following doctor’s orders, and not abusing the system.
Spradling Rigs, Offices, Shops, and Vehicles are interrelated with cellular telephones and two-way radios. Spradling Drilling maintains its own radio tower. In a cooperative agreement with the Hutchinson County Emergency Operations Center, Spradling Drilling’s radio tower has been outfitted with a propane generator that, in case of power interruption or loss, maintains power for constant communications ability. This allows Spradling Drilling’s personnel to communicate even in the worst situations.
Spradling Drilling is proud of its safety record over the last 50 years. Our achievements are derived from the hard work and participation by our employees. Employee health and safety has and will remain a top priority.
